Jazz guitarist Peter White imparts creativity and playfulness through his music, giving the genre liveliness. On this Christmas-themed CD, White and guest players Rick Braun and Mindi Abair, embellish smooth jazz with a very easy listening style. As clichéd as it may sound, the album comes off fresh at times, most notably with “White Christmas” and “Greensleeves.” A cover of Joni Mitchell’s song “River,” sung by Abair, contributes to this laid-back collection. -forrest green III
