The playground is a microcosm of the real world. As kids play on swings and monkey bars, they learn the importance of interaction and how to express themselves among their peers. For Houston native Lil Play, the playground is where he discovered his talent as a freestyle specialist. After challenging classmates to impromptu freestyle battles on his school's playground, he became more serious about rapping. He's now preparing to take the rap game by storm as the self-proclaimed "Freestyle Prince."

"I'm very confidant about what I do," says the 17-year-old Lil Play. "I've been in talent shows since I was 12 and I haven't lost one yet."

Lil Play's lyrical swagger recently earned him a spot on Hot 107.9 after he won a competition at Atlanta's Royal Peacock. After his appearance on Atlanta's No. 1 hip-hop station, Lil Play gained the attention of producer Chris Flames, who has created tracks for Yung Joc, Yola The Great and Tango Redd. He also got a chance to work with Big Tone who has worked with rap legend Too $hort. "My new album will have a lot of flavor," Lil Play guarantees. "I'm showing everybody what I'm made of."

With his new single "H-Town" gaining momentum, Lil Play is sure that he will be the next emcee from the South to make noise. "I'm the hottest dude rapping in my age bracket right now," he says. "Once I get started, nobody is going to stop me." - amir shaw
