Rapper, Producer
Traxamillion has become one of the most in-demand producers in the Bay. Early on, Trax actually pursued a career in front of the mic. "I started as a rapper in the underground," he explains. "Started off in my first couple of groups and it was kind of like De La Soul - to-the-left rap. I got into another group and went a little more mainstream."
That change of direction was but a precursor to a bigger transition Trax would undergo. Always having an ear for music, upon getting his own equipment, he switched gears, and jumped into the production chair. A big part of Trax's success has been his versatility and willingness to cover basically every facet of the recording process. "I got some equipment and started making beats," he shares. "I also engineer. I've always just been huddled up with my own equipment and forced to mix my own stuff so when I get in the studio, sometimes I come up with a hook, [and] sometimes I rap. I'd be even bigger if I could sing!"
Having worked with everyone from Too $hort to Mista Fab, Traxamillion's influences are as eclectic as his abilities. "I liked Lauryn Hill, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Cee-Lo - musically, those are the artists that sculpted my perception of hip-hop," says Trax. "[Everybody's] doing music, so you got to do something that sets you apart. I believed in myself and took that leap of faith." - todd williams
