Putumayo World Music
With this release, Putumayo explores America's rural musical roots. As with most of the company's releases, the fare on this album is varied. "Sweet Tequila Blues" by Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez is country music that moves. Eliza Lynn's "Sing A New Song" is jazzy, with Lynn's folky signature all over it. This collection has diverse ins and outs, from Mulehead's acoustic rollicking to singer-songwriter Ruthie Foster's blend of folk and African-American traditional music. This isn't just top-notch music for the converted; it could win over listeners, too. -forrest green III
