DJ, Radio Personality, Radio One

King Author will never forget the day that changed his life. During a visit to his sister’s house as a high school student, his brother-in-law introduced him to a set of turntables. That night, he spent hours trying to figure out the science of mixing records. He later purchased a set of turntables and became known as the go-to DJ for house parties in his neighborhood.

Now as a member of the Super Friends, King Author is making sure that the world recognizes his skills on the wheels of steel.

“I had the talent, but it took a minute for me to get on,” King Author says. “But once I got down with DJ Scorpio, everything snowballed for me. I was everywhere and before I knew it, I was on the radio at Hot 107.9.”

King Author’s rise with Scorpio began in 2002 when the two revived the Atlanta club, The Library. “Nobody really cared about The Library at first,” he says. “But Scorpio threw a birthday party and everybody came to show love. It was so packed that there was nowhere to stand except in the booth. From then on, The Library was packed every week.”

Although The Library has since closed, King Author continues to DJ at clubs in Atlanta and will release several mixtapes in 2007. But with the FBI raiding the offices of DJ Drama last March; King Author predicts a change in the mixtape game.

“Once you sell 50 to 70,000 CDs, the FBI is going to start looking [at your operation],” he says. “This will probably force the major labels to sign more DJs because mixtapes are the biggest thing going now in rap.”
