R&B Group
The catfights, jealousy and diva outbursts; these are things that come to mind when we think of some female R&B groups. But you won't see that with the rising trio, Az 1. The group, which started 2 1/2 years ago, consists of Evelyn, 17; Rebecca, 17; and Diamond, 16.
These young ladies possess energy and dedication, attributes that will certainly take them far. They have already performed at the Essence Music Festival, on Fox 5's "Good Day Atlanta," and BET's popular "106 & Park." This isn't an afterschool hobby for these ladies. "I've been singing almost all my life," Rebecca tells rolling out. "I started really young because my sister used to sing."
"My mother used to be a performer," says Diamond. "I used to always go to her practices and learn her dance moves and sing with her." "I used to sing with my dad. He was in a male chorus," says Evelyn. "All my uncles sing, so I basically grew up singing with them." Az 1 focuses on a positive image in both their lyrical content and their image. "We focus on trying to follow TLC. Our style is more like when Destiny's Child first started," says Diamond. "[Our style is] sexy, not sexual," interjects Evelyn. These ladies have high hopes for their career in the future. "We are looking for a major record deal. We're just waiting for that right moment to get our break," says Diamond, her eyes dancing with excitement. -adrienne gadling
