As evidenced by the five tracks on display here, this daughter of Motown songwriters has her own mission to fulfill. “I Told Myself” finds Dionyza (dee-on-juh) singing over the track that Kanye West sampled for rappers Scarface and Jay-Z, from the Originals. The rest of the EP is equally heartfelt, being full of smart touches and funk. Here’s to more brilliant debuts like this one. -forrest green III
