Although Hard Candy, Madonna’s 11th studio album has been well received it is considered a style departure for the pop icon into more R&B-ish territory. The reality, however, is that Madonna has discovered something closer to her original sound, albeit with a 21st century twist. With production and songwriting from “The Tims” (Timbaland and Justin Timberlake), Madge takes to pulsing cuts like “4 Minutes,” with fervor and works especially well with the Neptunes on the cuts “Heartbeat” and “She’s Not Me.” Hard Candy is a thoroughly enjoyable record, even though the diva sometimes gets lost in the superstar production. -dusty culpepper
