The title track and album-opener, the bouncy 1975 smash “Going Up Yonder,” performed by Walter Hawkins and the Love Center Choir, is an excellent, stripped-down take on the original. But Andrae Crouch’s version of “Soon and Very Soon” is the highlight of the collection, with an excellent piano performance. The go-go influenced “Shabach” is another unexpected gem, but “He Blessed Me” and “Be Grateful” are a little monotonous. Though it sags a little at the very end, Going Up Yonder is an uplifting collection of gospel favorites. -dusty culpepper
