Rocko/Self-Made
Island Def Jam/Rocky Road Records
Although his persistent use of ad-libs and elongated syllables will initially remind listeners of Young Jeezy, Atlanta native Rocko solidly carves a name for himself in street-hop with his debut, Self-Made. The album begins with a track that might even encourage a career slacker to search for ways to make money. “Dis Morning” sets the tone of the album and it soon becomes apparent that Rocko wants the world to know that money is on his mind. “Busy,” “Umma Do Me” and “Priceless” are other tracks that drive home the point that he is incessantly motivated by cash. But by the time “That’s My Money” comes around, his lyrics become redundant and uninspiring.
