Panic At the Disco/Pretty. Odd.
Fueled By Ramen
Panic at the Disco have discovered the Beatles — specifically the LSD-fueled psychedelic Beatles circa 1967. The Fab’s influence shines through, though much of the half-hearted whimsy seems forced. When the band’s own tongue-in-cheek wiseass-ery comes through, (as on the Byrds-ish “Folkin’ Around” and the opener, “We’re So Starving”), the boys find a perfect balance between self-awareness and blind idol worship. The emo lads have crafted solid melodies, but tbe psychadelia doesn’t feel authentic. Pretty.Odd is a solid record, but PATD still needs to grow up a bit. –dusty culpepper
