Detroit-born vocalist Dianne Reeves is well-known for the eclecticism of her recordings, and this set is no different. Sticking mostly to exuberant jazz, including covers of R&B classics “Just My Imagination” and “Lovin’ You,” she carries the album to a fiery climax with the rockish “Today Will Be a Good Day.” It looks like that old habit is hard to break, as well as artistically fulfilling as hell. - forrest green III
