Afro Bop Alliance/Heads Up International
The Caribbean Jazz Project, which consists of vibraphonist David Samuels, saxophonist Paquito d’Rivera and steel pan drummer Andy Narell united with the Maryland-based Afro Bop Alliance — one of the most prominent bands on the Latin jazz scene — to record this album of original and well-known jazz tunes. It’s a rollicking, freewheeling set that breathes new life into standards such as John Coltrane’s “Naima” and Oliver Nelson’s “Stolen Moments.” - forrest green III
