goldfrapp - seventh tree
Mute
After beating down the dance floor on their previous two albums, Goldfrapp breaks out the acoustic guitars and chills out a little bit on their fourth LP, Seventh Tree. Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory retain their shiny glam sound, but transmit it to varied, and often surprising places. The psychedelic “Little Bird” is Beatles meets trip-hop; and they expose unforeseen emotional undercurrents on “Monster Love” and “A&E.” This isn’t “Goldfrapp: Unplugged,” but it definitely frees the band from the electronica box they’ve been trapped in for most of their career.
