various artists - spirits in the material world
Shanachie
A bigwig over at Shanachie Entertainment decided it’d be a great move to have both Jamaican and American artists record some of the Police’s songs as reggae tunes. The result is an often mellow compilation lacking the Police’s punk-influenced agitation, but with its own merits. Dub reggae fans should adore Lee “Scratch” Perry’s dub version of Horace Andy’s take on “Invisible Sun.” It’s the most playful, creative moment of a solidly enjoyable album. –forrest green III
