For one night at the 2007 Berks Jazz Festival in Reading, Pa., a group of musicians gathered to play soul music. This album is a product of that night’s activities. Soul Summit consists of instrumentalists such as Karl Denson and Jason Miles. Vocalists Maysa and Susan Tedeschi perform on the disc, too. Expect covers with skillful musicianship and that art known as soulful singing. How does one describe the latter, really? As funk icon George Clinton declared in 1970, “What is soul?
