Some time ago, a musical group of chipmunks wrote the songs that made the whole world sing. This CG/live-action hybrid film finds the trio planning to come out of retirement. At the end of their hiatus, Alvin and the Chipmunks are still making trouble for their surrogate, human “father” David (Jason Lee) — they want to be well-known. We have the mischievous group leader Alvin, tall and quiet Simon, and chubby, impressionable Theodore. With direction from Tim Hill and an intelligent screenplay, this is an explosive return to form for the hell-raisers who sing in three-part harmony.
