Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) is the 243-year-old eccentric who owns Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest and most fantastic toy store in the world. The toys for sale are alive in this magical place. The film's action takes a turn when Mr. Magorium decides to retire and sell the business to his cashier, Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman). Magorium hires an uptight accountant (Jason Bateman) to organize his affairs. Despite its trio of respectable actors (Hoffman, Portman and Bateman), the film falls short as a conceptual clone of older movies such as The Santa Clause and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Its treats are for the noncritical viewer or those who only wish to be entertained. -forrest green III
