In this violence-driven motion picture, Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix) is a mild-mannered manager of a Russian nightclub in NYC circa 1988. However, the club is owned by a ruthless crime lord (Alex Veadov), who holds a personal vendetta against Bobby's father, Deputy Police Chief Burt Grusinsky (Robert Duvall). Bobby finds himself in a mess when he must help his father without revealing the secret that they're related. The film's great cast includes Mark Wahlberg and Eva Mendes. Writer-director James Gray stomps over the familiar territory he trod with his 1994 debut Little Odessa, starring rat-faced Tim Roth.
