The urban independent film climate has drastically changed since Master P's 1996 thugsploitation flick I'm 'Bout It. The stories, cinematography and casts have all gotten better over time. Debunking the myth that urban independent films lack good story lines and believable performances, this film was surprisingly entertaining. Despite sometimes-stiff dialogue, the few notable actors really hold things together. Of course, the bad-guy-gone-good story line is a cliché, (one that plagues many black independent films), but smaller elements that were added give the film a little life. This is one of those films you watch on a Friday night when you don't have anything to do. It's entertaining but don't go digging for depth because you're not likely to find it.
