Radio personality Russ Parr delves into screenwriting and film directing with The Last Stand. It's basically the story of four African Americans striving for success as performers in Los Angeles. The film opens with Reggie Sinclair (Guy Torry) having a dispute with his father because Reggie chooses to leave for L.A. to pursue an entertainment career. Reggie's father wants him to join the family real estate business. The issues dealt with in the film range from exploitation to deceit in relationships and alcoholism and drug abuse. Parr isn't without talent, but he has a penchant for portraying black people in sordid situations. Unfortunately, the film features numerous unintelligent-sounding characters speaking unintelligent dialogue and an overuse of editing tricks. - forrest green III
