tyler perry’s house of payne
TBS
The true-to-life episodes on “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” explore issues many African American families face daily. Malik (Larramie “Doc” Shaw) never ceases to amaze us. The girl-crazy teen engages in activities that range from heinous to hilarious, like setting his house on fire and joining the Sugar Bears Cheerleading Squad just to impress the ladies. The show’s writers do a good job of leaving viewers as the “Trial by Fire” episode was a suspenseful one, as we watched in agony hoping that the family was safe. The cheerleading antics drive Uncle Curtis crazy and illustrate just how homophobic African American men can be. In addition, the show highlights how important monogamy can be when Janine (Demetria “Dee Dee” McKinney) engages in unprotected sex and comes up pregnant. -malibu jones
