borderland
Lionsgate
Borderland is part of After Dark Films Horrorfest Series for 2007 and, of course, sports the required three words that all horror fans adore: Unrated Director’s Cut. Like all of the movies in the Horrorfest series, Borderland takes full advantage of those three words. Combining elements of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Hostel, the movie follows three friends as they travel to a Mexican border town for some fun in the sun. The “fun” turns out to be a sadistic blood cult which is very much into human sacrifice. There are indeed a few nods to the torture porn genre waiting for you in this film. The cult’s penchant for the machete virtually assures this fact. But the real highlight is the surprising performance from Sean Astin as one of the bad guys. You may remember him from his turn as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings. Good stuff for horror fans.
