poor boy’s game
ThinkFilm
Typically, any movie with Danny Glover leading the way is going to be good. In a character-driven movie like Poor Boy’s Game, Glover can only shine … and that he does. George Carvery (Glover) has come to grips with a brutal attack that left his son permanently handicapped; however, his world is turned upside down when his son’s attacker, Donnie Rose (Rossif Sutherland), is released from prison. In compelling scenes, Rose and Carvery face off as the two confront the incident that has shaped their lives. Hatred and tempers flare and it seems that the only way to justice is a boxing match between Rose and a supremely talented boxer named Ossie Paris (Flex Alexander). As Rose prepares for this seemingly lopsided match, he finds a side of himself he never knew existed. Rose’s journey is gritty and vivid, yet it’s a heart-heavy Glover that really steals the show.
