A reference point to understanding this thriller is Japanese master filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon. With it, Kurosawa sought to offer a long-running examination of the subjectivity of truth — that it differs greatly depending on who it comes from is a basic premise of the film. Director Pete Travis’ Vantage Point uses a similar narrative style in depicting the attempted assassination of a president. About half a dozen characters are introduced, and we see each one’s point of view of what happened. The characters are played by a cast that includes Forest Whitaker and Sigourney Weaver, and the script is top-notch. Need I say more? –forrest green III
