keep your heart healthy

Back in college, you may have eaten almost anything at every opportunity available. And that was OK then, but now things have changed. Now your metabolism has slowed and years of ingesting fried foods have begun to take its toll on your heart. Now is the time to start thinking about the status of your heart’s health.

Heart disease can challenge your health at any age. While heredity and eating habits can contribute to the onset of high blood pressure or stroke, you have the power to stave off these diseases and live the healthy life you want. Here are some tips to improving your heart’s health.

Exercise. Yeah, exercise is a necessity. The physical activity is just what the heart needs to stay healthy and fit. It’s no surprise that exercise and weight loss go hand in hand. So, do yourself a favor and start an exercise regimen — you’ll kill two birds with one stone. If nothing else, walk a few blocks every day.

Eat More High Fiber Foods. Everyone knows that eating nutritious food is essential to good health. But high fiber foods help the digestive tract as well as reduce the risk of heart disease. Include more fruit and vegetables in your diet. Also, eat oatmeal for breakfast several times a week and use whole grain bread for sandwiches as often as possible.

Manage Stress. Stress can have an effect on not only your mind, but your body as well. Learning to reduce stress can leave your mind at ease and your body feeling refreshed. Find activities that both engage and ease your mind, like word puzzles, leisurely walks or meditation.
