Chief Information Officer, Lockheed Martin Corp.
A true patriot, Joseph R. Cleveland uses his genius to help Lockheed Martin Corp. (the number one contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense) create weapons that infantrymen use in war. As the chief information officer, Cleveland sets the IT strategy for the enterprise system’s business unit.
“It’s not only my role to keep my corporation state of the art,” he explains. “We [also] implement IT to accomplish our mission [and] make sure that we are credible to our customer [the government].”
Cleveland’s upward trajectory into the hierarchy of Lockheed resulted from his ability to dexterously weave through, decipher and decrypt the complexities of an incessantly evolving Internet technology culture.
“I find that’s the core that differentiated [me] through each successive position in my career,” he explains of his handiness. “I’ve been able to get into very complex problems and dissect them, [giving] us the ability to solve [the problems] so we can integrate the solutions.”
Cleveland and Lockheed Martin have been fully integrated into the Executive Leadership Council, as one of the main sponsors of the CEO summit for the past seven years.
“[Lockheed] sees [the summit] as a place [where] they can find contemporary top leadership on diversity [and] inclusiveness and [understand] how that’s used to create business value and leverage the diversity that we have within the corporation,” says Cleveland. - terry shropshire
