President, Motown Alumni Association
In the timeless tradition of all that is associated with the Motown legacy, the city of Detroit will always pay homage to the illustrious musical talents that once put the city on the map. In the spirit of keeping that memory at the forefront of the public’s consciousness, the Motown Alumni Association is doing their part to keep that heritage alive.
“We find a good reason to have a good party,” states Billy Wilson, president of the Motown Alumni Association. “The organization is made up of Motown’s alumni from all over the world. It’s also made up of fans and people who love Motown music.”
With more than 10,000 members and 25 branches worldwide, the Association continues to keep the flame that ignited 50 years ago burning brightly by celebrating the musical contributions of music legends and alumni such as Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, Martha & the Vandellas and many more. “It’s pretty exciting,” Wilson imparts. “I’ve been in the business for a long time so these people are friends of mine, so [because] they are friends I get a chance to see those friends periodically when they come to town, whenever we have big events and things of that nature.”
“We have a Motown Alumni Convention that will be happening in 2008, [and] we have the Motown Music Festival that will also be happening in 2008 ...,” Wilson shares. –janaya black
