Teresa McKelvy takes great pride in educating her Chicago community on purchasing foreclosed properties and assisting them with mortgage and credit services. As president and CEO of Precision Title Abstractors, McKelvy specializes in title searches for national title companies and investors by searching property records to determine ownership, mortgage amounts, mortgage defaults and the status of property taxes.

“I became my own title abstractor so there wouldn’t be an abundance of people [involved] ... like how there’s a loan officer on every corner and there’s a realtor on every corner. I wanted to go into an industry where it wasn’t so concentrated. I will be able to stand out and do things for someone else who has never seen or [is not] familiar with [mortgages],” explains McKelvy.

As founder of the nonprofit organization Precision Economic Empowerment Inc., McKelvy gives free seminars to her community, and concentrates on teaching young people how to become entrepreneurs. “What I want to do for the urban community here in the city of Chicago is [to] start a local spelling bee so we can give scholarships to children that are going to college,” adds McKelvy.
