Founder, NoVu Wellness Project
A voice deep from within Syreeta Talbert told her she needed to take her career to another level. That voice inspired the massage therapist to start her own business, which is how her company, the NoVu Wellness Project, was born.
Talbert’s ultimate goal to promote better health and wellness led her to becoming involved with events such as the Black Men’s Wellness Expo, Ebony Black Family Reunion, and the Pantene Total You Tour.
Talbert believes becoming a successful entrepreneur takes researching every aspect of the business you want to get into.
“You have to get educated about your field if you want to be an entrepreneur. Networking is the main key — you shouldn’t just go out and talk to anybody. Go to key events, you will find people you can contact later on in life,” says Talbert, who won $20,000 at the Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series in 2004. “You have some people that just pass out their business cards, but what type of relationship are you trying to establish with that person? Study your competition. Competition is good, never be afraid to talk to your competitors. If you are about business, no matter what your business is, it becomes a part of you. When you talk to people [about your business], they will feel that same passion you feel. They’ll support you without you asking them to. That’s what I have been blessed to experience.”
