For three and a half years Michael Canady, and his sweet emporium, Canady Le Chocolatier Limited, have thrilled Chicago residents with delectable chocolate delicacies. The candy shop located in Chicago’s South Loop, houses both production and retail on-site and produces an exquisite assortment of gourmet artisan chocolates daily. Canady offers everything from chocolate mousses to homemade gelatos, making his company a local favorite.
“We make our own products. Everything is made here and that makes us very unique because nothing is [bought] from another source. I think that the current generation is not terribly familiar with what it is like to experience eating a fresh chocolate that has been made ... in the past week as opposed to one that was made two months ago,” says Canady.
Having spent more than 15 years working for an overseas oil company, the chocolate maker visited some of Europe’s finest sweet shops while researching his new craft. “Artisan chocolates are an art form and this is what we enjoy doing, creating different flavors, different shapes, doing different textures, and for that reason, I think we can compete with larger companies simply because we are also very good,” boasts Canady.
The shop’s selection also includes chocolate covered almonds and hazel nuts, gelato-filled cannolis and capuccino. Canady Le Chocolatier Limited is setting the bar for top tier chocolate shops.
