U.S. Representative, 5th District, Georgia

For nearly half a century, Congressman John Lewis, D-Ga., has been the voice in Congress for the citizens of Atlanta. But Lewis is best known as a hero of the Civil Rights Movement who valiantly fought for the equitable treatment of his people in a hostile and racist society.

Lewis would like to see the black community return to the nonviolent tactics that worked so well in the 1960s to bring about a significant change in the social structure of America.

“We’re very concerned about the large number of young people, especially young African American males, that are caught up in a cycle of violence. We’re trying to tell people we must lay down the tools and instruments of violence and move towards a society at peace with itself,” says Lewis. - jason thompson
