Founder and President, Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating
Seattle Sutton knows a thing or two about healthy eating. Twenty-two years ago, after working as a nurse in her husband’s private medical practice in Marseilles, Ill., Sutton decided to create meals that would be both nutritious and delicious.
“… One day a type 2 diabetic came in,” recounts Sutton. “My husband always knew I was very interested in [nutrition], [and] he called me in to help him make some menu plans [that would] hopefully lower [the patient’s] blood sugar count.”
The patient’s declaration that “I’m not going to do all that work, but if you did it for me, I’d stay on it,” inspired Sutton to create Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating.
“Our meals are low-fat, low-cholesterol, sodium restricted, contain no food dyes, and [have] zero trans fat,” shares Sutton. “The meals are for anybody [who] wants to eat healthy. My mission is to improve people’s eating habits,” Sutton says matter-of-factly. “It’s a five-week menu rotation — if you’re on it for a year, you only repeat the same meal 10 times.”
Sutton headlined the Smart Women, Smart Money seminar, which was billed as the ‘modern girl’s guide to money and business.’ Sutton gladly shared her success story with the seminar’s participants as a template for all women entrepreneurs to follow. She has specific advice for those who feel they are too old to start an entrepreneurial venture. “I started this when I was 53 years old,” she says with a laugh. “So you’re not ‘too old.’ [You’re] never too old.” - todd williams
