Engineering Group Manager, General Motors

Thanks to engineering professionals like Mike Kinloch, millions of drivers can safely navigate their vehicles through the worst winter conditions.

Kinloch, a computer analysis engineering group manager for General Motors, drafts auto-part designs and tests them in different environments and scenarios to ensure that they function properly.

“My group takes a design and based on its make up, the materials [and] geometry, we analyze the numbers to tell if that particular part would perform well under certain conditions,” shares the 26-year veteran. “If it doesn’t meet the requirements, then we recommend changes to the engineers to revise the part so that we can optimize the [its performance],” he explains.

Kinloch credits GM’s commitment to embracing diversity as an integral part of providing safe, quality vehicles to their clients. He cited the diverse cultural viewpoints that are brought to the table as having a tremendous impact on the overall outcome of the final products. As a dedicated employee, Kinloch takes his job very seriously and is committed to excellence. “I love the challenge of being able to take and design a proposal and optimize it to perform in the environment [that] it’s being designed for,” he confides.

With that type of commitment, drivers can rest a little easier while operating their GM vehicles in any kind of weather. –janaya black
