Communications Director, Detroit Medical Center

Christians believe that when God closes one door, another one opens. This adage has never been more fitting than as in the case of Emery King, the Detroit Medical Center’s communications director of two years. “I’m much busier now [and] much happier than I ever was in my years at Channel 4 [News], actually, in my years in television news,” shares the former news anchor. “I’m having a kick of a time,” says King as he cheerfully embraces his newfound career, which brings with it creative freedom and professional flexibility.

The medical center is making technological history through its online broadcasts of new and revolutionary medical procedures, allowing medical personnel and laymen to access selected surgeries online.

“We shoot breakthrough surgical procedures and we explain very complicated surgeries, which are offered in a minimally invasive fashion at the Detroit Medical Center’s facilities,” King explains.

The online program’s objective is to inform, educate and engage the public in relevant health issues. “It gives me an opportunity to do something that is worthwhile [and] beneficial to people, to help them improve the quality of their lives,” King says. King’s production company, Kingberry Productions, produces all of the Detroit Medical Center’s online shows. –janaya black
