Senior Legal Council, PepsiCo
It’s Brian Nurse’s hope that when people attend events like the recent Black Enterprise Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge, they use the time to engage in dialogue with one another. As senior legal council for PepsiCo, Nurse knows that movers and shakers in the business world tend to lose touch with each other, especially in the African American community.
“[As] part of our diversity initiative, we feel that [events like this] are an avenue where we send a message about developing young African American executives,” he says. “[We bring them] to an event like this for networking and social purposes outside of the normal seminars and conferences you normally have.”
Aside from conferences like this year’s golf and tennis challenge, PepsiCo is known as a global leader in business. Nurse notes that the company prides itself in being a business that caters to a diverse customer base, but more important within that practice rests a deeper concern.
“One of the main things we talk about over at PepsiCo is not only having a customer base that’s so diverse, but we need our workforce to look that way, as well,” he says. “Coming to events like this to support any sort of diversity is ideal from a business standpoint [and] strategy standpoint. This is just an obvious fit.” gavin philip godfrey
