Director of Public Relations, Macy’s
Macy’s is an American institution. The company has been a household name for generations, but that doesn’t mean that it takes its status as America’s favorite department store for granted. The company is all about strengthening ties with the community, and Natalie Bushaw, director of public relations, is an integral part of that connection.
“Being a part of the local community is core to who Macy’s is as a department store,” she explains. Bushaw is an active participant and overseer to some of Macy’s most noteworthy events, including the star-studded Glamorama celebration in Chicago.
Glamorama is an explosive combination of fashion and country music that began in the late ‘90s and thrives today. This year’s show raised funds for the Chicago Institute of the Arts. “Events like Glamorama bring the community together,” explains Bushaw. “It’s all about fun fashion, a great post-party — the party of the year in Chicago — and raising money for a good cause.”
A company is nothing without its consumer base, but Macy’s doesn’t just view events like Glamorama as a chance to reach its customers, it’s a chance to enlighten the community and inform the general public. For Bushaw, the emphasis on community is paramount. Macy’s events that bring fun and inform the populace are what make her job all the more enjoyable. “The [events] raise awareness [in] Chicago, and we’re excited [and] happy to bring that to our customers,” she says.
