With over 50,000 employees and manufacturing facilities in South America, North America and Europe, Georgia-Pacific has established itself as a worldwide force within its respective industry. With people like senior recruiter Shana Venson scouring the country for the best talent, the company’s reputation for employing top-notch professionals is in good hands.

Venson aims to bridge the gap between her company and the community. Through events like the National Black MBA conference, and various other networking functions, Venson and her staff are able to inform people of Georgia-Pacific’s employment and leadership opportunities. Part of communicating this information is stressing the importance of African Americans getting involved with companies that stay current.

“We stay relevant by always trying to stay current, [and by] doing a lot of research on ways we can be better,” she says. “That’s something we’re committed to, especially with diversity and really trying to target and be involved with the [community].”

Keeping the community in mind, Venson also has plenty of advice to offer the young business minds of the country that may be striving to follow in her footsteps. “Stay focused,” she says, while speaking directly to the youth. “It can be difficult at times, so do your research; make sure you’re researching companies that are doing well. Make sure that you’re knowledgeable about the companies you want to work for.” - gavin philip godfrey
