CEO, W&W Public Relations Author, It Happened in Church

As Patti Webster built her successful marketing and advertising firm, W&W Public Relations, she drew strength from her deep-rooted faith. A lifelong Christian, Webster often found support and inspiration from her church family. It was also in the church that the PR maven found some of the best medicine of all — laughter.

Those funny moments would eventually come together in Webster’s debut book, It Happened in Church, a collection of hilarious anecdotes culled from experiences shared by her and friends. The New Jersey native says several factors moved her to put the tidbits together.

“I really believe the Lord dropped [the book] on my spirit during prayer one night. Also, I just get so much joy out of church, both naturally and spiritually, because church is really funny,” she explains. Featuring humorous offerings from friends such as Tichina Arnold, Pastor Donnie McClurkin and Mary Mary, Webster is hopeful that the book shows that it’s ok to laugh sometimes.

“I’m not laughing at church; I’m laughing in church,” she specifies. “I think there are so many people that feel that church is ... a stoic and boring experience.”

While the book just hit shelves, Webster’s already looking ahead to its follow-up. “I received so many stories that I couldn’t even use them all. I had to be sure to keep some for the next book,” she says, adding that she’s also inviting readers to submit their own funny tales for possible inclusion. But, above all, Webster invites readers to laugh along with her.

“God didn’t create laughter just to be outside the sacred walls of holiness. He created laughter as a healing balm across the board,” she says. “Through laughter, God can heal you in so many places. It does the soul well.” -ivory m. jones
