Senior VP, Human Resources and Global Diversity and
Inclusion, Bank of America
Bank of America has harvested bounteous fruit from its ardent advocacy of a true meritocracy. It is no coincidence or fluke of fate that this financial institution, which is the nation’s largest bank, was given a 3.45 out of a possible 4 rating from the NAACP’s economic reciprocity initiative rating, the highest ever given by the civil rights organization. It was also named, as Geri Thomas illuminated, for four consecutive years by Black Enterprise as one of the 40 best places for African Americans to work because of its devotion to multiculturalism.
“Ken’s [Lewis, Bank of America’s chairman and CEO] strong support for diversity is exemplified by the fact that he is the past chairman of the National Urban League and continues to be involved in this and other key organizations,” says Thomas, the senior VP of human resources and global diversity and inclusion for Bank of America. “So as you can see, our diversity efforts start at the top. Ken’s commitment is to an inclusive workplace where all associates can reach their full potential without any barriers ... which is why our support for the National Black MBA Association and its conference is so vital to our recruiting strategy and future business success.”
BOA appropriates considerable resources to sustain a corporate culture where diversity is not just a catchphrase of expediency.
“This leadership ensures that diversity and inclusion are integrated into our business practices at Bank of America and that we manage diversity as we do any other business principle. It’s critical to our success in business and in communities where we work and live, resulting in more innovative products and services and increased shareholder value,” she says.
