President, National Black Public Relations Society
"Each one of us has to figure out what our purpose is in life. I believe that God gives us all gifts and abilities, and what you are is defined by what your gift is from God." Those words, beautifully phrased by Wynona Redmond can add a clearer perspective to a sometimes lost world, where countless people are searching for their true purpose. So what is Redmond's purpose? Well as the president of the National Black Public Relations Society (NBPRS), Redmond is focused on improving the quality of our communities through the work of the NBPRS.
"The theme of this year's national conference is 'Making Our Communities Better Through the Power of PR,' Redmond explains. "The conference will examine the presence, influence and power of PR to make a difference within our increasingly complex society."
Redmond, who also serves as the public affairs director at Dominick's, a division of Safeway, believes that this year's conference, which takes place in Chicago Sept. 20-23, will go a long way in strengthening an already solid network of black professionals within the public relations field. "We are expecting in excess of over 300 conference attendees," Redmond beams. "With this being our 9th year in existence, it has come a long way from the first year where we had only about 25 participants."
The conference, which will also attract upwards of 100 college students, is being sponsored by Abbott, AstraZeneca, Bloom, Gross & Associates, Coca-Cola, Dominick's/Safeway, Edelman, ING, Jewel-Osco/SuperValu, Toyota and Webber Shandwick - dewayne rogers
