Owner, Corrie's Christian Café
Charles Kent has always looked forward to Sundays. That was the day that his wife, Corrie Kent, would prepare dinner after the family attended church service. Those Sunday dinners were so delicious that Charles began to encourage his wife to take her culinary masterpieces to another level. So, in February, Charles and Corrie created Corrie's Christian Café. "I always told her that her home cooked meals would make us [millionaires]," Charles says. "We got a chance last February to open a restaurant and we decided to name it after her." Corrie's Christian Café has some of the best soul food that Dallas has to offer. Some of the most popular dishes include chicken and waffles, fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, candied yams and grilled salmon. "We wanted the restaurant to be an upscale, soul food restaurant," Charles says. "So, we provide live entertainment and we've had wedding parties, seminars and business meetings at the restaurant. We also have church there on Sunday mornings. It's a place where you can have church service and get serious soul food." Although the family-owned business is still in its infancy, Charles believes that the restaurant will soon be a hit around town. "We're getting the word out that we're here," he says. "We're giving soul food a new image and bringing a quality dining atmosphere to the community." - amir shaw
