“Nationwide is on your side.” While the marketing team deserves endless kudos for creating such a memorable slogan to represent the aims and initiatives of the proud company, the real magic happens when that motto rings true through daily encounters with their wide and diverse client base. That’s where Lorraine Brock comes in.
As the vice president of diverse markets, Brock works tirelessly to ensure that Nationwide is not just on your side — but on everyone’s side. The means to such an end are challenging at times considering the history of the insurance industry in urban markets.The good thing is, in her current post, Brock has played a key role in enhancing Nationwide’s efforts in urban and diverse markets. “Over the years, more minorities [have begun] serving in the insurance business as agents, associates, managers and executives,” she carefully explains.
“Having people that mirror the population enhances our position in the marketplace. The reality is that many insurance companies are not domiciled in minority neighborhoods, and so it is difficult for leaders to see the opportunities in those communities. Part of embracing diversity [is] creating an awareness about those issues.” It’s good to know that Brock and Nationwide are, in fact, on our side. -dewayne rogers
