For Horace Highland Sr., programs such as the Who’s Who of Black Cleveland enable African Americans to revel in the success of their contemporaries. “Who’s Who of Black Cleveland is always important ... for us to recognize our peers. We come together on occasions like this to acknowledge people and what they’ve accomplished here in Northeast Ohio,” says Highland of American Family Insurance. “It’s always just good for us to get together because we are so busy in our day-to-day activities, and this gives us a chance to come out and celebrate our successes.”
The Who’s Who program also gives Highland the opportunity to network with corporate executives and entrepreneurs who may be in need of the type of services that Highland offers with his agency. He says the AFA, which was lauded by J.D. Power and Associates for its products and services, wants to expand its operation nationwide.
“I love people. I get to work with my clients. I get to come to events like this. I’ve got clients where I work. I see them when they purchase their first home. I work with them to get coverage for their kids. I see them when they start their businesses,” he says. “And I sell them the coverage they need to insure their businesses. The enjoyment is being able to work with people and help people to achieve their life goals and improve their quality [of] life.”
