OB-GYN, Premier Women’s Healthcare
Dr. Dominique Smith is an educator, a women’s advocate and a mother. As head of Premier Women’s Healthcare in Lithonia, Ga., the obstetrician-gynecologist demonstrates unmatched commitment to improving women’s health.
“I do health care for women — all that it takes to take care of a woman and make her feel healthy and good about herself ... [including women] from all walks of life [and] from adolescents to [the] elderly, [and] post-menopausal women,” says Dr. Smith whose private practice cares for more than 2,000 patients.
The married mother of two also provides aesthetic services for her patients, like the latest FDA approved SmartLipo procedure, laser hair removal, vein care and chemical peels. Through it all, her devotion to health care has only intensified since her days as a student at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
“[I figured that] if women were educated and in good health, then most likely they would translate [that] and make their husbands or their partners do the same thing — and their children would also be in the same healthy state,” shares the physician.
The former Morehouse School of Medicine professor, whose practice will move to larger offices in late May, encourages her patients to take care of themselves. “I think the best advice I could give is prevention of disease. Know what the things are … that you should [be] screened for annually. I think as black women we are more reactive to disease than proactive,” she stresses before mentioning the importance of regular mammograms, colon screenings and blood pressure check-ups.
Dr. Smith implores women to educate themselves concerning their physical well-being in order to maintain optimum health.
