If Maggie McDonald’s career trajectory appears upwardly bound, it’s partially because the Miami resident is literally living a cloud-clearing, interstate lifestyle as the brand director for Bacardi USA. She configures the comprehensive and dazzling campaigns that help engender urban sophisticates to Bacardi’s flavored rums.

“It actually doesn’t feel like a job. It’s actually more like play time, in that there is [something] a little bit different every day,” she says while drinking in the spectacular visual extravaganza at the Bacardi-backed party in Chicago, the first in a multistate campaign. “One day you can be working on a new product line … another day you could be making a new pitch to senior management on a new advertising campaign. You never know what your day is going to be like, which I like a lot because that means there’s always something different and it doesn’t feel like work.”

McDonald traverses the continent facilitating an ambience conducive for consumers to enjoy and experiment with the Bacardi brand. At the party in Chicago, for instance, libation aficionados and ‘mixology’ enthusiasts were able to imbibe on visually delicious morsels of exotic worldwide destinations — all while experiencing a plethora of Bacardi flavors.

“It [requires] a lot of weekends, a lot of late nights. But the people who do well … have a lot of passion — passion for the brand, passion for having the vision. We’re always determining things like: ‘here’s where we want to take this brand,’ and ‘how are we going to get there? What sorts of programs?’ I just love it.
