Project Engineer, Gilbane Building Company
Nosa Ehi is the quintessential personification of the American Dream from a variety of standpoints. The Nigerian-born, Chicago-raised Ehi is a former high school All-American track star who received a full scholarship to Ohio State University. He is now living his dream as a project engineer. Soon, Ehi plans to, well, engineer an entrepreneurial career where he coalesces his expertise in construction with his friend’s burgeoning IT firm. Most gratifying of all, Ehi was recently able to appropriate his passion and skills to make a substantial contribution to his father’s real estate business.
“My father’s been doing real estate for 20 years. He bought a building in Hyde Park, and I renovated the building [completely], [gutted] it, rented out [one] apartment and [I’m] living in the other [apartment]. [It] took me about a year to complete the project,” he says, his voice tinged with pride.
As a project engineer for Gilbane Building Company, Ehi facilitates pre-construction to completion of construction, when Gilbane gives the owner occupancy of the building. “From dirt all the way up,” he adds. “We manage the construction phase of it, actually we take the design documents working with the architect and the owner, and collaborating with those two documents, give them the final product. So we manage every aspect of it, [from] mechanical engineering [and] civil engineering all the way to structural and architectural to get the job done.”
But Ehi is not done when it comes to ‘constructing’ the next phase of his life.
“I am taking steps to eventually someday branch away from corporate America [and] run my own program, taking IT tech and incorporating construction and real estate, which is really my passion in construction and development,” Ehi adds
