sr. Sales Agent
Miller Realty
Scarlett King has the interior of her dream home broken down to science. The Detroit-born Atlanta resident of 15 years wants a craftsman-style home with marble countertops and hardwood floors throughout — the works. At the same time, King, a senior sales agent with Miller Realty, understands that in the current housing market, dream homes are a lot harder to come by for the average buyer.
“The most challenging part is on the lending side,” says King. “It’s difficult to obtain loans now because of the predatory lending [crisis]. But for those that are qualified, it’s a great time to buy. Interest rates are very low, but as far those who are challenged credit-wise they’re having a difficult time.”
After three years as a listing agent with Keller Williams Realty, King officially stepped into the role of buyer’s agent when she joined Miller three years ago. Today, King deals mostly with high-end sales. Want a spot in one of Atlanta’s new high-rises? If so, King is your best bet.
King asserts that builders, not realtors, deserve the shine. “To me, the most important thing is understanding the other side, because everybody and their neighbor in Atlanta is a real estate agent, but you only have a few builders,” she says, citing that more attention needs to be brought to African American builders. “There’s nothing like going into a brand-new four- or five-million-dollar home knowing that the man who built it was just like you.”
