Executive Director, The Jenesse Center
As a country, we have a tendency to be aware of only those things that directly affect us, never caring to look at the problems that plague our fellow man, or in this case, woman. The Jenesse Center, a domestic violence intervention program based in South Central Los Angeles, makes no such distinction. As the nation’s oldest program of its kind, the Jenesse Center has served as a support system for countless sufferers of domestic abuse. Karen Earl, the center’s executive director, has worked tirelessly to ensure the continued care of those in need.
“The problem is definitely a very real one,” Earl explains. “Here at the Jenesse Center, we understand that there are women and children that are really going through some tough times. We strive to be a beacon of hope for them, letting them know that they are not alone.”
The Jenesse Center has certainly been successful in providing hope to those affected by domestic violence, so much so that they have even been fortunate enough to secure the assistance of some very notable names. “It has been an honor to have people like Halle Berry donate their time and energy to our cause,” Earl states. “But what I have seen, is that when celebrities get involved, others feel like there’s no reason for them to get involved. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. We need everyone’s assistance to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of these families.”
