Dallas CRA Market Manager, Comerica Bank
Many Americans believe the cliché that one can pull themselves up “by their bootstraps.” However, the key to that social and financial ascension is information. Lueretha Slack, CRA marketing manager for Comerica Bank in Dallas, believes in providing materials and knowledge to less fortunate citizens in the hopes that they can begin the climb up the socioeconomic ladder.
“I work with community organizations [that] provide services to low-to-moderate income individuals,” she explains. “We try to make their lives better through financial literacy, health and education. We try to do what we can to make people successful.”
That objective isn’t always easily attained, and Slack is tireless in her effort to build a more fiscally-aware communitym which means working to make sure organizations have enough funding to function.
“Some of my biggest challenges [include] finding enough money for those organizations that are [helping to] do the work, because every non-profit organization [has] to depend on corporations and others for funding ... [Comerica] can only do so much because we’re only one bank, so [we] help them find other sources,” Slack says, adding that she’s excited that her employer shares her passion for community growth.
“We try to help people become financially literate because finance is something that people need to have a better understanding of,” she continues. “People go into loans and mortgages and credits, and they don’t know what they’re doing. Comerica’s approach is [that] we really have people that care about the community.”
